The Oxford Fathers Project

The Fathers Project is a research project designed to learn more about the effects of having a baby on fathers and their families.  We are particularly interested in the effects of these changes on the psychological well-being of fathers and we are trying to understand how father's experiences and feelings effect their child's development.

Nearly 200 fathers and their families from Oxford and Milton Keynes have taken part in this research.  We have written some papers about how some fathers are affected by depression at this time, and the changes to family life in the first year of life (see publications section). Other work is still ongoing, examining the interactions of fathers and mothers with their young children, and how this may affect children’s early development.
